Garcia goes down in Otago Open final "Boilover"

Top Seed Hector Garcia was defeated by second seed Vaughn Kingi in the final of the Otago Open Mens final yesterday 6-4 6-1.Garcia failed to take early opportunities in the first set and did not play the key points well making too many unforced errors and failing to take control of the rally's.Garcia could not maintain his depth often his groundstrokes falling too short allowing Kingi to cease the advantage. When Garcia did attack too the corners failure to follow the ball in for the put away of which would of been an easy volley allowed the canterbury player to work his way back in the point by playing another groundstroke. Not taking anything away from Kingi who played his best tennis of the tournament in this match but finals are won by taking opportunities and many players have had the ability to win these matches but have came up short by not playing the big points well.In losing a match players however can take a lot from the loss and gives them "goals" and incentives to work on different aspects of their game ,the old saying "you learn more from a losing game than a winning one" is a quote all players should take to heart.Garcia will learn from this match and he will work harder to overcome some shortfalls in his game ,as a coach thats what you want and expect of your player. In the doubles final yours truley partnered Garcia in the mens doubles final but after the first set had to retire, having survived a semi three setter ,winning 11-9 super tiebreak the shock of playing matches again was too much for the eye!Unfortunately scheduling during the tournament left a lot too be desired .
